studentsCycle 10 of the All-Akron Student Engineering Program (AASEP) held its second workshop on February 22, 2025, at the University of Akron. The focus of this session was on resume building, leadership, and soft skills development. The day began with a light breakfast, followed by a brief introduction to our new GA, Brelynne Majeed, marking his first time facilitating the program. Mary Cooke from the University of Akron’s Career Services then led an engaging 30-minute resume-building presentation, providing practical tips for crafting standout resumes.

Afterward, the students worked on their resumes while also having professional headshots taken, a valuable addition to their career portfolios. Next, the "Lost at Sea" leadership exercise was introduced, where students were divided into four teams to prioritize survival items. This exercise encouraged teamwork, communication, and critical thinking as the students debated their choices. Following the activity, the winning team was announced, and the students showed great enthusiasm.

In the afternoon, three guest instructors from GSI led the students through a detailed estimation project, where they applied their STEM skills to make engineering-based estimations. The session ran a bit longer than expected, but the students were fully engaged, asking insightful questions. The session wrapped up, with the closest team winning Chick-fil-A gift cards. Overall, it was an informative and engaging session, and we look forward to the students continuing to grow throughout the program.
